Flamboyan Arts Fund and Mellon Foundation Announce Final Open Call for Letras Boricuas Fellowship 2026
Open on April 13 through Friday May 22, 2026 (5:00pm AST)
This prestigious fellowship will award 24 writers with deep and sustained ties to Puerto Rico and its diaspora, whose literary works reflect that connection —both emerging and established—a $25,000 unrestricted grant to support creative work across multiple literary genres, including: Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry, Spoken Word, and Playwriting.
This opportunity will help your school develop a culture and practice of authentic partnerships with families, drawing on Flamboyan’s expertise as well as tools, training, and a like-minded community of school peers. FEP schools work to grow and sustain their own family engagement practices through four phases, from building relationships with families to long-term program sustainability.
The intake process for both opportunities consists of three phases.
- Information Call between the school leader and Mamie Hall, Senior Director of DC Saturation at Flamboyan to discuss the current state of family engagement at the school and what the partnership offers.
- Partnership Interest Form where prospective partners share more in-depth information about their school and their reasons for wanting to partner with Flamboyan.
- School Visit which provides Flamboyan an opportunity to step inside the school building and have conversations with both the school leader and members of the staff.
There are three characteristics of successful partnerships we will be looking for throughout the process.
- Vision alignment – The degree to which a prospective partner shares an equity-centered and asset-based mindset about families and a desire to prioritize building relationships and academic partnerships with families.
- Leadership – The degree to which school and district leaders understand the interconnectivity of family engagement with other priorities and explicitly commit to creating space and time for Family Engagement work.
- Coachability – The degree to which school staff and leadership are open to receiving and applying feedback from families, students, LEA Leaders, coaches, and professional learning spaces.
